DIRD Delegate Institutional Routing Division

A LaunchCloud Labs division · Voice-native by necessity

Life doesn't stop at the gate. Neither should yours.

DIRD is the communications and services operating system for the incarcerated — a real line to the outside world that runs entirely by voice from an ordinary facility phone. Make calls that sound like a free person's. Reach the live internet. Keep Service Credits that pay for all of it. No smartphone. No app. No keypad required.

§ What DIRD is

One phone call is the only tool most people inside actually have.

So we built everything around it. Roughly half of facilities garble or block the keypad mid-call, and most people inside have no device and no internet at all. DIRD assumes none of that. You call one number, and a voice assistant does the rest — signs you up, signs you in, and hands you a genuine account you operate by talking.

Behind that single call sits a telephone network that preserves your identity to the person you're calling, a voice-to-web browser that reaches the live internet, and an account holding Service Credits — the credit that pays for every DIRD service and can be shared with another person inside. It's not a message board or a canned-response line. It's an operating system for staying a full participant in your own life.

To restore human dignity by bypassing institutional shadow bans — letting people manage their lives, finances, and communications from the inside with absolute autonomy. — DIRD mission

§ How it works

Everything happens in a single phone call.

01

Call

Dial the DIRD line from any facility phone. DIRD listens to the prison's charge-acceptance prompt and answers it for you — then greets you like a person, no menus to memorize.

02

Speak

Sign up entirely by voice — no email, no app. Your account is locked with a passphrase and a rotating security question you set yourself. Forget the exact wording? DIRD matches you fuzzily and lets you spell it out.

03

Live your life

Call home and sound free. Ask the Knowledge AI anything on the web. Check your Service Credits, share credits with someone inside, keep a contact book, reach a real human — all by talking. Your account remembers everything between calls.

§ The services

A full toolkit — built for a phone, not a screen.

Each of these runs today by voice, unless it's marked Coming soon or Phase 2. Full detail on the Services page.

Call Relay & Identity Preservation

DIRD bridges your call to anyone on the outside. The person you're calling doesn't hear the robotic "this is a call from a correctional facility" warning — the conversation just sounds like you, calling. A gentle chime, audible only to you, warns a minute before the prison hard-cuts the line so you can say goodbye on your own terms.

The Knowledge AI — the web, by voice

A voice-to-web browser. Ask a question and DIRD searches the live internet and reads you a grounded answer with real sources — case law for your defense, today's news and sports, the weather, anything. It's the internet, over a phone, for people who've been cut off from it.

Service Credits — what pays for everything

Credits tied to your ID, logged to the cent in a transaction register you can hear read back on any call. Add credits by card, spend them on every service here, and share them with another DIRD account by ID number. Credits buy DIRD services — they are not cash and cannot be cashed out.

The Concierge Retainer

Hand DIRD funds with a stated purpose and we spend them on your behalf, as your agent — funding your own commissary, trust, or phone account, or loading a named person's books. Payment always goes to the facility or its vendor, never to an individual. We charge nothing for the service itself.

Messaging & contact book

Have DIRD send a text to a loved one on the outside on your behalf, right from a call, and leave messages when you can't reach someone live. Keep a contact book so you never have to spell a number over a bad line twice.

Phase 2

The DIRD Card

A debit card issued through a partner bank, so value built inside can be spent in the free world. This one depends on bank rails and the licensing behind them, so we won't put a date on it — and we won't imply today's credits already work that way. They don't.

§ How money works at DIRD

Two buckets, and we tell you which one you're in.

Most services in this space are vague about what your money becomes. We'd rather be precise. Every dollar sent to DIRD lands in exactly one of two places, chosen when it's sent — and each one does a different job.

Bucket A

Service Credits

Credit that buys DIRD's own services, issued one credit per dollar. This is what a phone call, a Knowledge AI session, or a text is paid for with.

  • Spend on any DIRD service — calls, Knowledge AI, messaging
  • Share with another DIRD account by ID number, on a call
  • Every credit in and out is logged and readable back to you
  • No interest, no expiry — credits sit until you use them
  • Not cash. Cannot be redeemed, withdrawn, or sent to a bank
Bucket B

Concierge Retainer

Funds you hand DIRD with a stated purpose, for us to spend on your behalf as your agent — the way a bookkeeper or personal assistant pays your bills at your direction.

  • Fund your own commissary, trust, or phone account
  • Load a named person's books through their facility's vendor
  • Convert to Service Credits when you buy a DIRD service
  • Every instruction is named, confirmed out loud, and receipted
  • Never paid to an individual — only to a facility or its vendor

Saying the quiet part plainly

DIRD is not a bank and is not a money transmitter. Service Credits are not money, not a deposit, and are not insured. They pay for DIRD services and can be shared between DIRD accounts — that is all they do, by design.

Today DIRD does not move money for you as a service — no sending to an outside bank account, no paying cash to any individual, no converting Service Credits back to cash — and we won't do it as a one-off favor if you ask. (Returning your own unspent Concierge Retainer money to where it came from is a refund, not a transfer — that we do, only back to its source, as the Terms spell out.) Cards and real withdrawals are a Phase 2 feature that depends on a banking partner and the licensing behind it. When that changes, we'll say so here first.

§ The inside economy

The economy inside already exists. DIRD gives it a clean ledger.

People inside already run an economy — hustles, favors, work. What they've never had is a record of it that anyone can read back. Service Credits move that value between accounts and log every bit of it.

Take the barber on the block.

He cuts hair for five credits a head. His clients hold Service Credits in their own DIRD accounts, and after a cut they share five credits with him — by ID number, out loud, on a call. Over a month it adds up to a register he can hear read back any time he wants.

He spends them the way anyone spends anything: calls home that sound like a free person's, time with the Knowledge AI working his own case, a text to his daughter. Credits are the fuel for everything DIRD does — and nobody can quietly shave a cut off the top, because every transfer is logged and reviewed.

When his family wants money on his commissary books, that's a separate path entirely: they fund a Concierge Retainer and DIRD pays his facility's vendor directly, on their instruction. We take no fee for it.

Service Credits are not cash and can't be withdrawn, mailed, or sent to a bank — see how money works at DIRD. Every share passes a human review before it moves.

§ For families & friends

You don't need an account to help someone inside.

The simplest way to help is to add funds to their DIRD account. You can do it right here on this site, or your loved one can ask DIRD on a call and we'll text you a secure link. Either way, you enter your card on a payment page hosted by Stripe — the same company behind millions of businesses online. DIRD never sees or stores your full card number.

Funds arrive within minutes and become Service Credits they can spend on calls, the Knowledge AI, and messaging — they'll hear the new credit total the next time they call. If you'd rather put money on their commissary books instead, tell us on the call and we'll pay their facility's vendor directly, at no charge. Nothing to install, no account to create.

§ Manage online Coming soon

Soon: a full account you run from anywhere.

Today you can add funds as a guest — no account needed. Next, we're opening DIRD web accounts so a family member can securely link to their loved one's account and do nearly everything they'd do on the phone — from a browser, on their own schedule.

  • Link to an account using the passphrase and security questions — one account, one person.
  • Add credits and pull up a full receipt history — email any receipt to yourself.
  • Share Service Credits with another DIRD ID, or instruct a commissary books-loading.
  • Manage the contact book and kick off number porting.
  • Open a support ticket and choose a call back or an email back.

§ FAQ

Questions, answered — straight.

Who is behind DIRD?

DIRD — the Delegate Institutional Routing Division — is a division of LaunchCloud Labs, a U.S. software company based in Melbourne, Florida. Our legal pages are public: Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions, and our support team is reachable at support@launchcloudlabs.com.

What exactly are Service Credits? Are they money?

No. Service Credits are prepaid credit for DIRD's own services, issued one credit per dollar. They pay for calls, the Knowledge AI, and messaging, and they can be shared with another DIRD account. They are not a bank deposit, they earn no interest, they are not insured, and they cannot be redeemed for cash — not by withdrawal, not by check, not by transfer to a bank, and not by asking us nicely.

If what you want is money on someone's commissary books, that's a different service — the Concierge Retainer — and we pay the facility's vendor directly for you, free of charge. Details in how money works at DIRD.

Can my loved one cash out their credits when they're released?

Not yet — but it's coming. A debit card and real cash-out are a Phase 2 feature we're building toward now, and they go live the moment we've got a banking partner and the licensing in place. That's the honest timeline: soon, and worth doing right.

In the meantime your Service Credits never expire and never lose value. They buy every DIRD service, they're shareable with another DIRD account, and credits you're holding at release keep working on the outside — so nothing you put in goes to waste while we get the card ready.

I got a text with a payment link. Is it really from DIRD?

If your incarcerated loved one just asked you to add funds on a call, very likely yes — that's exactly how the system works. The payment page itself is hosted by Stripe, so check the address bar before entering anything.

If a link shows up out of nowhere, or anyone pressures you to pay by gift card, wire, or crypto — that is not us. Forward it to support@launchcloudlabs.com and we'll confirm either way.

How does someone use this with no internet and no smartphone?

DIRD is voice-first by necessity, not as a gimmick. Roughly half the people we serve can't even use a phone keypad reliably, let alone a website. Every feature — signup, security, the Knowledge AI, credits, sharing, support — is built to work by speaking on an ordinary facility phone. This website exists for the people around them, who do live online.

Is DIRD affiliated with my facility or its phone company?

No. DIRD is an independent service that works over the ordinary phone lines facilities already have. We're not the facility's phone vendor, commissary, or staff — we work for the person calling us.

How is my account protected?

Sign-in uses three factors — your account ID, a personal passphrase, and a rotating security question — so knowing someone's ID number alone gets a caller nowhere. New accounts pass a human identity-review step, and every credit share and every retainer instruction is reviewed by a real person before it moves. Card details are handled entirely on Stripe's hosted pages and are never read back over the phone.

What does it cost?

The Knowledge AI is $0.19 a minute, pay-as-you-go. Calls and messages are simple per-use rates, and sharing credits carries a small fee. Loading someone's commissary books through the Concierge Retainer is free — we charge for our own services, not for handing your money to a vendor. Everything is quoted clearly on the call before anything is charged, and every charge appears in the account's transaction history, readable back on any call. See the Services page for the full picture.

§ Support

Real people, reachable two ways.

From the outside

Questions, verifying a payment link, or account concerns on behalf of a loved one — include a phone number if you'd like a callback.

From the inside

Say "I need help" on any call. A ticket is opened with a real person and tracked until it's resolved — ask for its status on your next call.

Someone you love is still in there. Help them stay whole.

Add funds to their account in two minutes, or call the line to see how it works.
